Yandex Zen

Zen is a Yandex service that gathers materials you are interested in and shows them all in the same feed. News, articles, videos, and blog entries can all be viewed in Zen, without going from site to site searching for information.

To create a personalized feed, Zen collects information about your interests. This is only possible when you are logged in to Yandex. If you read Zen on different devices, log in to each of them using the same account. This makes the feed adjust to your interests much faster.

How Yandex Zen works

Note. Yandex Zen is integrated into both Yandex Browser for desktop and Yandex Browser for mobile. To learn how to configure or disable Yandex Zen, see the Help section for your device: iPhone, iPad, smartphone, or tablet running on Android.

Yandex Zen gradually adapts the feed to your interests. It analyzes your interaction with the feed (subscriptions, ratings, blocks), search queries, browser history, and other data about your online preferences. You don't need to worry about privacy because the data is stored in a depersonalized format. As a result, you receive personalized recommendations that include materials from sites you haven't visited yet. If your interests change, the Yandex Zen feed adjusts to them after a while.

To see Zen recommendations, create a new tab and scroll down.

To update the recommendations feed, press F5 or the New posts button on the Yandex Zen tab.

Customize Yandex Zen

To customize your feed, Yandex Zen analyzes your interests on the web using site visits, ratings, and subscriptions. Over time, recommendations will adapt to match your interests. This takes one or two weeks on average. You can help Yandex Zen algorithms learn what to show you:

Log in on Yandex

Log in on Yandex when you open the browser. Use a single account on all your devices.

Specify which publications you prefer seeing or not seeing in your feed

Use More like this and Less like this icons: and . They are not intended for assessing the quality of content. Use them to tell Zen which publications you want to see more often and which less often.

Subscribe to channels and unsubscribe from channels

The channel is maintained by a Zen website author. You can subscribe to a channel:

  • In the recommendations feed.
  • In the author's publication.
  • On the Zen website and in the Channels tab.

If you subscribed to a channel, this does not mean that the feed will display all its publications. Zen will filter out the channel's content you are not interested in. Moreover, it will display publications on similar subjects from other channels and sites.

To unsubscribe from a channel, on the Zen website go to the Subscriptions tab. Open the needed channel and tap Unsubscribe.

Block channels

You can block a channel you are not interested in or report a channel that violates Zen publication requirements. You can do this:

  • In the recommendations feed.
  • In the author's publication.
  • On the Zen website and in the Channels tab.

All posts from the blocked channel will disappear from the feed. You can unblock a channel on the Yandex Zen site on the Blocked page. To open it, tap your account photo in the upper right corner.

Subscribe to and unsubscribe from topics

A topic feed is a selection of publications from different channels on a common subject. To subscribe to a topic:

  1. Open the Zen website and go to the Channels tab.
  2. Enter a subject name in the search bar, for example, “humor” or “cats”. If Yandex Zen has this topic, its name appears below. Select the topic.
  3. The topic feed opens. Tap Subscribe.

If you have subscribed to a subject, this does not mean that all publications on the subject are shown in your feed. Yandex Zen filters out the content you are not interested in.

To unsubscribe from a topic, go to the Zen site and open the Subscriptions tab. Open the topic and tap Unsubscribe.

Manage comments

Log in on Yandex to comment on articles, narratives, and posts. You don't have to subscribe to a channel to do this.

Actions with comments

You can:

  • Add comments, edit comments (within an hour after adding) or delete comments.
  • Sort the list of comments under a publication (by date or by popularity).
  • Reply to comments or rate them.
  • Copy the link to a comment and share it via email or social media.
  • Report a comment.
Limitations for making comments
  • The maximum comment length is 4,000 characters with spaces.
  • You can't edit a comment if more than an hour has passed since posting it.
  • Comments do not support images, links, or text formatting.
  • Comments on videos are not supported.
  • If an author has disabled comments to their post, you cannot view or add comments.
Name and photo for comments
The comments display your account information in Yandex.Passport:
  • Photo you uploaded when registering on Yandex. If you didn't upload a photo, Zen displays a random image instead.
  • The first and last name you provided when registering on Yandex.

If you don't want to show your real name in comments, change the field Name in comments and reviews.

Attention. Do not change the name or other personal details of your account you have submitted at registration. This will make it more difficult for you to restore access to your account.

The new name will be used both in Yandex Zen and other Yandex services. You can't change your name for just one service.

To change your name in comments
  1. Open your Yandex account .
  2. Hover your mouse over the Name in comments and reviews field.
  3. Tap .
  4. In the window that opens, select a name from the list. If none of the suggested values are good enough for you, tap Other and enter a new name.
  5. Tap Save.

    Now all your comments will be signed with a new name.

Change photo in comments
  1. Open your Yandex account .
  2. Hover your cursor over the photo.
  3. Tap .
  4. Upload an image. From the computer: click Upload and select a file. Using a direct link: enter the address and tap .
  5. Tap Save.

Turn the recommendations feed on or off

Note. The recommendations feed is turned on by default.
Turn off the recommendations feed
  1. Tap  → Settings.
  2. Go to Interface.
  3. In the New tab section, disable the Show Yandex Zen recommendations feed option.
Turn on the recommendations feed
  1. Tap  → Settings.
  2. Go to Interface.
  3. In the New tab section, enable the Show Yandex Zen recommendations feed option.
Enable the feed if you disabled recommendations while installing the browser
  1. Tap  → Settings.
  2. In the Users section, click Add user.
  3. Choose a profile icon.
  4. Set a profile name.
  5. Enable the Create a desktop icon for this profile option to launch the browser with the new profile with a single click.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Open a new tab.
  8. In the Yandex Zen section, click Enable.
  9. Select at least five sources of interest to you.
  10. Tap Continue.

Zen problems

The feed is not shown
  • Sign in to Yandex.
  • Open the Zen website and make sure it works. If the site is unavailable, wait until Zen is back.
  • Click  → Settings → Interface → New tab. Check whether the Show Zen recommendations feed option is enabled.
  • Make sure you have installed the latest browser version. Update the browser, if necessary.

The feed won't adapt to my interests
  • Make sure you have logged in to Yandex under the same account on all your devices.
  • Make sure you have allowed sites to save cookies. If cookies are disabled, it will take the feed more time to adjust to your interests, as your browsing history will be unavailable.
