When you verify your site management rights, you will get access to the information about site indexing by the Yandex robot. This information may be confidential, which is why Yandex has to make sure that you have rights to manage the site. To verify your rights, you need to make changes to the site.
The site owner may change. This is why Yandex regularly checks the changes that prove the site management rights. If they aren't found during a check, the site will become “unverified” again.
The check can take up to 24 hours.
Verifying your site management rights
If you have several sites, you have to verify your rights for each of them. If you need to verify your rights to your site's subdomains, you can use a simplified procedure.
To verify your site management rights:
Log in to Yandex and add the site to the list of your sites. The added site is shown in the My sites section.
In the Access rights section, choose a verification method:
Main page meta tag: you need to add a special meta tag to the HTML code of the main site page (in the
HTML file in the root directory: you need to create an HTML file with a unique name and unique content and place it in the root directory of your site.
TXT record in DNS: you need to add a TXT record with a certain unique value to the DNS record of your site.
Email from WHOIS: you need to confirm the email address displayed on the WHOIS Email addresses page.
Use this method if your site is a second level domain and is located outside the RU or РФ domain zone.
Also, you can get site management rights from another user who delegates you the rights. Thus, several people can get the rights. The list of users who verified the rights is displayed in the Access rights section.
If you can't use any of these methods but you are in charge of the site, contact the webmaster or someone who is responsible for the site support.
Simplified verification of rights
To add the site with its subdomains to Yandex.Webmaster, verify the rights to the main domain using one of the methods (HTML file, meta tag, and so on). You can then verify the rights to subdomains using a code generated for the main domain. For example, to verify your rights with an HTML file:
- Add the main site domain to Yandex.Webmaster.
- Add the HTML file with the verification code generated in Yandex.Webmaster to the site's root directory.
- Add the site subdomain to the service.
- Add the HTML file generated for the main domain to the subdomain's root directory.
In the same way, you can verify your rights to a subdomain with a meta tag or a TXT record in DNS.
Delegation of rights
After you verify your site management rights, you can transfer your rights to other users of Yandex.Webmaster. The user to whom you delegate your rights can use all service features with no restrictions.
To delegate the rights, enter the user login for the chosen site in the Delegate rights section and click the Delegate rights button. When the site is added to Yandex.Webmaster under the specified login name, the user's site management rights are verified automatically.
Cancelling another user's rights
Management rights to the same site can be verified by multiple people. For example, this can be useful if both the webmaster and the resource owner want to track the site's status.
If you think that the site management rights were verified by a user who shouldn't have them, cancel the access rights in Yandex.Webmaster:
Remove the changes made for the rights verification, depending on the method used:
- Remove the
<meta name="yandex-verification" content="verification code" />meta tag from the main page HTML code.
- Remove the yandex_<verification_code>.html HTML file from the root directory.
- Remove the
yandex-verification: <verification_code>record from DNS records.
- Remove the email address used to verify the rights from the page.
If your site management rights are verified in Yandex.Mail for Domain, contact the support team.
- Remove the
- Click the Revoke rights button.
